Working groups
The first fundamental activity of the Committe has being held in Porto Alegre, between last May 21 and 23. At the meeting there were discussions on the event’s layout, the leverage to using free technology, supply ways that favour solidarity economy, languages and voluntary translation, WSF as a sustainable place, among other aspects. Also, some members of the IC and Indian Organising Committee (more directly involved with the event’s organisation), and of local entities that will play an important role on the WSF 2005 preparation process have participated in the meeting.

Moreover, at the meeting a paradigm of a more participative WSF organisation has been fixed, with an open work groups framework. In order to achieve such a framework, seven WGs have been created. The first missions of these WGs was to elaborate a conceptual note on themes they will work with, as well as needed action plans and budgets until June 30.

Click in the following items to access each WG conceptual note:

- WK of Spaces (Portuguese)
- WK of Solidarity Economy
- WG of Environment and Sustainability
- WG of Culture
- WG of Translation
- WG of Communication
- WG of Mobilisation
- WG of Free Software

A Mobilization group has also been formed. The WK of Free Software, created in May, is interlinked with the WG of Communication.

Afterwards, it has been decided that the WGs role is that of reflection, dialogue on criteria and deepening political discussion of themes regarding WSF organisation. The essential of executive tasks will be accomplished not by the WGs, but by the offices in São Paulo and Porto Alegre (the latter has been working since July). On one hand, the WGs propose significant questions, themes and initiatives to the OC and, on the other hand, deepen and work on political definitions that happen on the scope of OC.
