20.11.2004 Eduardo Suplicy and Ziegler debate on minimum income
Senator Eduardo Suplicy, Brazilian advocator of the minimum income project, and Jean Ziegler, from Switzerland, UN special rapporteur on the right to food, will be the speakers for the debate at Minimum Income as a human right, an event that has already been registered for WSF. The event aims to address issues like: “how can we make sure that the right to food is an actual right also for the 800 million people who are currently starving in today’s world?” and “Can all the several kinds of minimum income projects be an indicative of how to work for a global basic income along with the UN?”
The organizations that lead the debates are networks with branches in more than 60 countries. They are: Bread for the World, Via Campesina (which encompasses struggle for the right to land movements) FIAN (FoodFirst Information & Action Network) and the World Lutheran Federation.
