A invitation to fly

Eduardo Galeano

What about we do get on exercising the never-proclaimed right to dream? What about we do wonder a little? Let’s set the sight in a point beyond the childhood to guess a other possible world?

Millenium goes, millenium comes, the occasion fits to the preachers of the inflamed verb speech about the fate of mankind and to the spokeperson of the wrath of God announce the end of the world and the total annihilation, while time, mouth shut, carries on its journey along the eternity and the mistery.

Truth must be said, there is no who resist to it: at such date, the more arbitrary it should be, everyone fells tempted to ask itself how it would be the time that will be. And whoever know how will it be. We have got only thing as certain: in the XXIth century, if we were still around, we all are going to be past century, and worst, past millenium people.

However we do could not imagine the time that will be, we do have the right to imagine what we would like it to be. In 1948 and in 1976, the United Nation proclaimed endless list of human rights, but the immense mankind majority has got only the right to see, listen and shut. What about we do get on exercising the never-proclaimed right to dream? What about we do wonder a little? Let’s fix the sight at a point beyond the childhood to guess a other possible world:

the air will be free from venom which did not came from human fears and human passions;

on the streets, the cars will be smashed by dogs;

people will not be driven by cars, neither computer programmed, neither bought by supermarket, neither watch by tv;

the tv will no mora be the most important family mamber and it will be treated as the iron and the dishwashing machine;

people will work to live, instead os live to work;

it will be embodied to criminal codes the felony of cupidity, commited by those who live for possess and for gain, instead of live only to live, as sings the bird knowing nothing about singing and plays the child knowing nothing about playing;

no country will imprison youths who deny to go to military service, but do will those who follow engaged;

economists will not call level of life the level of consumption, neither quality of life the quality of goods;

cookers will not believe lobsters like to be boiled alive;

historians will not believe countries love be invaded;

politicians will not believe poors love eat promisses;

none will believe solemnity as a virtuea and none will take seriously those who was not able to not be serious;

death and money will lose its magic power and neither by decease nor by wealth a boor will be taken as a virtuous knight;

none will be regard as hero or fool for doing what it guess fair instead of doing what it guess more convenient;

world will no more make war agianst the poor, but against poverty, and the military industry will have no other resort than declare itself bankrupted;

food will no more be a merchandise and neither communication a bussiness, because food and communication are human rights;

none will decease by hungry, because none will decease by indigestion;

abandoned children will no more be treated as trash, because there will be no abandoned children;

rich boys will be no more treated as money, because there will be no rich boys;

education will not be a privilege for those how can afford for it;

police will not be the terror for those who can not buy it;

justice and freedom, siamese sister condemned to live apart, will become tightly close, arm into arm;

a woman, black, will be the president of Brazil, and another woman, black, will be presidente of United States of America; and a native woman will rule over Guatemala and another over Peru;

in Argentina, the Plaza de Mayo crazy women will be a example of mental health, because they reject forget in times of mandatory amnesia;

The Holy Mother Church will correct the mistakes of the tables of Moses and the sixth commandament will ordain do celebrate the body;

The Churce also will dictate another commandament, which God forgot: "Do love the nature, as a part you are of it";

it will be reforested the desert of the world and the deserts of the soul;

The hopeless will be hope and the lost will be found, because they are those who get hopeless in hoping for so long and lost in seeking for so long;

we will be compatriots and contemporaneous of all those who aspire after justice and aspire after beauty, born wherever they have born and lived wherever they have lived, no meaning for bounds in maps or times;

Perfection will linger to be a bored privileges of gods; but in the puzzled and tedious, each night will be lived as the last and each day as the first;
