10.08.2009 The next edition of WSF to be held in Dakar, Senegal, Africa, in 2011
The last WSF International Meeting, in May, approved to hold the next World Social Forum in Dakar, in Senegal in 2011. According to the African Social Forum organizers, the Dakar proposal is supported by several social movements in the region, such as feminist organizations and trade unions. For the IC members, it will be very important to hold a WSF in Africa since the population of this continent suffers intensely the impacts of the crisis. Beside it, the Forum in Senegal will address special themes regarding the region.
The idea is to boost the improvements conquered in Belém, including the focus on environmental issues and the mobilization and participation of indigenous peoples. The mobilization and methodology work will be developed collectively, with the cooperation of different groups from all over the world. A preparatory seminar is going to be held this year in Dakar to start the debate on many issues – including the format and the financial support to the event – and in order to make the general project for the 2011 WSF.
