10.08.2009 Quebec Social Forum will be held from October the 9th until the 12th
From October the 9th until the 12th it will be held in Canada the second edition of the Quebec Social Forum. More than six thousand people are expected to participate in the several programmed activities. Some of the event's cross-cutting themes address resistance and the creation of alternatives to capitalist, patriarchal, racist and homophobic forms of oppression, and of a “Reinventing the Quebec of tomorrow”. Other than that, the event will address issues along nine thematic axes:
* Human rights, Peoples rights, struggle for equality and diversity;
* Democracy, power, citizen participation and the role of the State: rethinking politics;
* Social control and mobilization in Quebec: labor issues and union struggles, community actions, social movements, social economy;
* Capitalism crisis: rethinking development models;
* Struggle against the commodification of common good, public services and privatizing knowledge, education and health;
* The environment, health and ecology;
* Art, culture, democratization of information and means of communication;
* International solidarity, pacifism, the struggle against imperialism and war;
* Ethics, spirituality and religion.
The mobilization calendar approved in January in the Belém, Brazil, includes the following activities:
- October 07. – World Day for Decent Work (WDDW)
- October 08. to 15. - Week of Mobilization and Action Against Debt and Global Financial Institutions.
- October 12. - Global Mobilization of Struggle for Mother Earth, against colonization and commodification of life.
- December 9. - World March Against Corruption
- December 12. - Global Day of Action on Climate Justice during the Copenhagen Climate Summit
